One of the most luxurious treatments for a bedroom is to make up the bed with thick down blankets. A feathery down filled mattress cover creates a pillow of wonderful softness to sink into. Down filled pillows plumped up at the head of the bed near the headboard add another dimension of sweet luxury and softness. And finally, down blankets atop it all make you want to crawl in between the layers and hibernate for months!
Down blankets are soft, warm, and most are hypo allergenic, as well. They’re all natural and eco friendly. And they really are the epitome of good taste, too!
On a visit to Denmark a few years ago, I stayed at a luxurious, European style hotel. The rooms are a bit smaller than the typical American hotel room, but the style was upscale and classy. The amenities were remarkable. The bathroom was unique and stylish in an old-world way. But I was most impressed with the linens.
The entire bed was made up just as described above-in all pure white linens. In fact, I think there was an additional down filled blanket or cover on the bed, as well. At the end of long days touring the city of Copenhagen, mostly by foot, coming back to my room for a good night’s sleep was heavenly!
When I got back to the United States from that vacation, I absolutely had to have down blankets, pillows, a featherbed, and duvet covers for my own bedroom. I was spoiled for anything else. It was one of the most luxurious, self-indulgent purchases I’ve ever made-and it was worth every penny! I’ve never regretted it.
Sinking down into down blankets and down filled layers is like sleeping on a cloud. The fresh smells, fluffy softness, and soft linens are unparalleled by any other beddings I’ve ever slept on. Crawling into my own beautifully made up bed with a good book is better than going on vacation!
And now I don’t really have to-go anywhere, that is! My beautiful, white, down filled linens have a wonderful classy look on my bed and make a striking impact on my otherwise old-fashioned bedroom. And those down blankets, pillows, comforter, and featherbed feel every bit as good as they look. So I am so much happier at home in my own bed than in any hotel bedroom.
If you want to make over your bedroom and go for a new look and feel, start by remaking your bed. Strip it down, get a new mattress if you need to, add crisp white sheets, and then add a down feather bed. Top it off with down filled pillows and down blankets. Don’t add a bunch of decorative stuff on top. Just keep it clean and simple.
Then simplify the rest of the room a bit, as well. Get rid of excess knickknacks and clutter. Throw open the curtains and the shades to let the light in. Take a few things off the walls and swap it out with some wall décor from other rooms-or just leave the walls a little more bare. Create a clean, fresh, modern look you’ll love! And it all starts with just a wonderful comfortable down blanket!
